Six large ZM1042 digits, clear or smoked
The ZM1042 has large, beautifully shaped digits and is one of our favourite tubes. This clock shows six of them in a perspex case – clear or smoked, your choice – with glass neon colon towers. It runs cool and efficiently. Assembled and tested by hand in Paris.
Light and effects
- RGB LED backlight under each tube: 10 levels per primary colour, with a different setting for every hour of the day (bright by day, dim at night)
- Neon colon lamps between hours, minutes and seconds
- Crossfade and “slot machine” effects
Timekeeping
- Quartz crystal oscillator for accurate time, independent of mains frequency: works anywhere in the world
- 12 or 24-hour display and date display
- Alarm with snooze
- One-button daylight saving time
- Built-in temperature sensor
- Supercapacitor backup through short power cuts; settings stored in non-volatile memory
- Optional GPS or WiFi time sync
Built to last
- Night mode: dims or blanks the display at night
- Anti-cathode-poisoning routine: the slot machine effect regularly cycles every digit to keep the tubes healthy
- Optional motion sensor: switches the tubes off when the room is empty
